Story Board - The Ugly Duckling
The task was to create a storyboard for a title sequence for a TV series that is based on the stories of Hans Christian Andersen. The story i chose was 'The Ugly Duckling'
The Ugly Duckling is a story about a transformation of a not so loved, sad duckling maturing into a beautiful swan. the story was published in 1843 and has remained a favourite fairy tale for many generations.
my computer has broken down and i am currently using one without photoshop, this has become a big problem, as well as not having a mouse to be able to draw properly. This is my final story board of the opening credits to a tv series called 'The Ugly Duckling'

Social Conscience
after looking around on the internet for different ideas to do my project on i decided to choose war but incorporate peace and poverty into my design also.
My first costcard size design was about poverty, its called 'War on Poverty'. Firstly i found three photo's on the internet of children who look like they come from a poverty or poor background, I also found an image of a poloroid photo and joined the images together to create a collage of typical photos of children you would see on a world vision add. i then found a background of a middle eastern setting which can be linked to both poverty countries and also countries at war. Then i used the lasoo tool to cut out a tank and i added that onto the opposite side of the other images i put into my design earlier. already i was beginning to get a ncie contrast of war and poverty. On a 'Make poverty history' compaign i found i got the idea to use a quote by president Eisenhower about how war is not the most important thing in the world and we should really be using our money and resourses for feeding these children and actually making poverty history. Here is the full quote;
Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.
Dwight D. Eisenhower, From a speech before the American Society of Newspaper Editors, April 16, 1953
I then finished my design with the title in the top left corner 'WAR ON POVERTY' The text i used remindes me of war, and it hought it would fit in well with what i am trying to say.
My target audience for this piece is everybody. I believe it is a clear message that needs to get accros to everybody.
My second idea came to me when i first saw this image of children with guns, and i thought to myself...this isnt right. Children should not be brought up with war like this. I used 'war' here to get a message of peace across to my audience which also happens to be everyone. This simple poster could be used as a protest sign and anti-war campaigns. I used simple colors red, black and white that stand out very well with one another.

Design Presentation - Banksy
I chose to do my presentation on the artwork of Banksy - an anonymous England based graffiti artist & political activist.
His art has been featured on streets, walls and bridges of cities throughout the world.
Banksys work was born out of the Bristol underground scene as a free and graffiti artist in the early 90’s. By 200 he had turned his style to the art of stencilling after realising how much less time it took to complete a piece. He reckons he changed to stencilling whilst he was hiding from the police under a rubbish lorry when he noticed a stencilled serial number so he started using this technique he soon became widely noticed for his art around Bristol and London. He also states that he was also too slow and was either caught or could never finish the art in one sitting, stensils are a lot quicker to use.
Banksys works have dealt with an array of political and social themes such as anti-war, anti-capitalism, ant-fascism with additionaly the compnants of the human condition such as greed, poverty, hypocrisy, boredom, despair, and alienation.
In august 2004 Banksy produced a quantity of fake 10 pound notes where he substituted the queens head for Diana and changed the text “bank of England” to “banksy of England”. Somehow a lot of the fake notes got out at the notting hill carnival and Reading Festival that year, which some people tried to use at local shops. Since this happened these notes have became available on eBay for 200 pound each.
In August 2005, Banksy took a trip to the Palestine territories, creating nine images on the Israeli west bank wall which seperates the Israeli and Palestine populations.
In april 2006, Banksy created a sculpture based on a crumpled red phone box with a pickaxe in its side and placed it in an alley way in London.
The same year banksy replaced up to 500 copies of Paris Hiltons debut cd in 48 differnt sotres in the uk with his own art and remixes by danger mouse, the track names were changed to ‘why am i famous’,’what have i done’ ect. Several copies were brought from stores before they could be removed, some are now going for 750 pounds on ebay . the cover art depicted.

Assignment 1 - Rubbish
The first assignment we did was Rubbish, where we were to design an alphabet from refuse or found objects. We are to digitally photograph or scan the objects and import them into digital front, creating our own ‘Rubbish’ font.
I used the background of my backyard fence where I usually associate rubbish with the most. I am a student living with other young students and friends so we tend to have a lot of rubbish after parties and sessions at my house. The rubbish bins and yard is always overflowing with empty beer bottles and slab boxes so I thought I would use rubbish from my own back yard as it kinda sums up what sort of person I am. Objects used to make my rubbish alphabet were empty beer bottles, packs of cigarettes, cheap Coles rissole containers, McDonalds thick shake cups, and broken shoes.
I individually made my seven letters to spell Rubbish and took photos with my iPhone and uploaded them to photoshop. I cut each individual letter out with the Polygonal Lasso Tool then pasted each onto the background image I took previously. I placed the letters to created the word RUBBISH over my side fence and changed the file name of each layer accordingly. I then sharpened each layer and its edges to make them stand out a bit more.
some rubbish i found in my backyard.
Final rubbish font.
